Taking the fast lane with an outsourced IT-infrastructure

The forwarding company Pabst Transport has updated their IT to the maximum – without investing in hardware or software. All IT-services are provided at a low cost and scalable from login2work on a rental-base.

The middle class forwarding company Pabst Transport from Lower Franconia is represented in 15 locations in the field of transport, haulage and logistics and occupies around 350 employees. Pabst Transport has evolved very dynamically within the last couple of years – limiting all preexisting IT-structures from a certain point on.

„If we want to integrate a new employee, a call at login2work is all it takes.“

Especially the user management and the administration of a growing number of terminal devices and old servers, causes tremendous expences. An urgent need of investments was also given in the areas of IT-security, networks and communication.

A consistent teamwork-resolution was also needed for in-house cooperations. The logistics provider would’ve had to invest around 400.000 to 500.000 Euros in hardware, software and services, to meet all these expectations. Instead, Pabst Transport decided to obtain all the required IT-systems and business applications on a rental-basis from login-2-work.

These are a couple of impressions

The project

Within a project-timeframe of only eight weeks, a customized IT-infrastructure was put on in the computer center of login2work. Besides all the standard applications like Microsoft Office and DATEV, the project staff also installed all branche-applications – reaching from haulage-software to the gas-station-program and a digital tachograph. All necessary backend-systems like the SQL-data-base for the vehicle-fleet-management, were also installed by login2work.

Comprehensive advice, a detailled chronological projectplan, as well as a gapless documentation of all taken measures were part of the professional implementation. Andreas Wagner, IT-manager at Pabst Transport, appeared very pleased: „So far, we’re very pleased about our decision: The solution has been working trouble-free for more then six years now.“

The advantages

The switch to the new solution took place just in time: in the beginning of December 2008, the employees of Pabst Transport GmbH & Co. KG were able to use their new IT workplaces, which are now made available to them via the protected web portal of login2work. The feedback was consistently positive: many applications are running much faster since they are run on powerful servers in the datacenter. In addition, internal collaboration has become a lot simpler:  all users now work with uniform software versions, use a common file storage, and communicate efficiently with Microsoft Exchange and coordinate appointments.

Working device- and location-independent

In addition, login2work provides mobile access to the user desktop from anywhere: employees only need a computer with an internet connection and can use any business application at home.

Within the company the web access is protected by a special VPN / WAN access router: the solution not only encodes the communication between the terminals and the data center of login2work, but also bundles several lines from different providers to a single highly available network connection. This ensures that the employees of Pabst Transport can always work with their applications without interruption – even if the connection to one of the network providers should temporarily be interrupted.
