The patented Aircoated technology is a structured and functionalized surface that ensures that the treated surfaces of a ship do not get “wet” under water. This reduces energy loss due to friction by 20 percent and the emission of toxic substances into the sea by up to 95 percent.

The technical development and research of Aircoating Technologies is being carried out under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Thomas Schimmel, head of a research group at the University of Karlsruhe, in which new nanostructured, bioinspired surfaces are developed in close cooperation with material scientists, chemists, biologists and engineers and the behaviour of biological cells on these surfaces is investigated.
