Certaines esp\u00e8ces n\u2019h\u00e9sitent pas \u00e0 franchir des distances consid\u00e9rables, traverser des mers ou gravir des altitudes \u00e9lev\u00e9es  &#8211;  comme celles qui migrent d\u2019Afrique du Nord jusqu\u2019en Allemagne. Le plus \u00e9tudi\u00e9 d\u2019entre eux est le papillon monarque, reconnaissable \u00e0 ses ailes orange et noires tr\u00e8s contrast\u00e9es. En Am\u00e9rique du Nord, certains individus peuvent parcourir jusqu\u2019\u00e0 3 600 kilom\u00e8tres.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ces insectes \u00ab royaux \u00bb, malheureusement menac\u00e9s d\u2019extinction, y parviennent gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 leurs ailes uniques, qui leur permettent de voler aussi bien activement que passivement. Des chercheurs de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 technique de Darmstadt (TU Darmstadt) et du Centre Helmholtz de Dresde-Rossendorf ont cherch\u00e9 \u00e0 reproduire ce m\u00e9canisme  &#8211;  d\u00e9crit comme \u00ab novateur \u00bb par le m\u00e9dia sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.industry-of-things.de\/neuartige-roboterfluegel-monarchfalter-inspiration-a-fd12d8d2603f1386bfbcbdfbdb415e79\/\">Industry of Things<\/a>  &#8211;  et viennent d\u2019y r\u00e9ussir.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"margin-top:64px;margin-bottom:20px;padding-top:16px;\">Mouvement g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9 par des champs magn\u00e9tiques externes<\/h2>\n<p>Oliver Gutfleisch, professeur en science des mat\u00e9riaux \u00e0 Darmstadt, et Denys Makarov, \u00e0 Dresde, sont parvenus \u00e0 fabriquer une aile en plastique souple d\u2019une \u00e9paisseur d\u2019environ 0,75 millim\u00e8tre seulement, dans laquelle ils ont int\u00e9gr\u00e9 des particules magn\u00e9tiques. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 des champs magn\u00e9tiques externes, ces ailes g\u00e9n\u00e8rent ainsi de la portance et peuvent avancer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019un des principaux d\u00e9fis r\u00e9sidait dans l\u2019extr\u00eame finesse des ailes r\u00e9alis\u00e9es par impression 3D : les chercheurs avaient d\u2019abord con\u00e7u douze mod\u00e8les diff\u00e9rents afin de reproduire fid\u00e8lement la structure veineuse des ailes du papillon monarque.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>En combinant analyses par \u00e9l\u00e9ments finis (AEF) et exp\u00e9rimentations, ils ont cherch\u00e9 \u00e0 d\u00e9terminer comment chaque motif influen\u00e7ait la mobilit\u00e9 et l\u2019efficacit\u00e9 des ailes. Les r\u00e9sultats ont montr\u00e9 que les ailes plus grandes, dot\u00e9es d\u2019une structure veineuse, \u00e9taient plus flexibles, plus robustes face aux contraintes m\u00e9caniques et mieux adapt\u00e9es aux variations de leur environnement.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"margin-top:64px;margin-bottom:20px;padding-top:16px;\">Applications possibles dans les domaines environnemental et m\u00e9dical<\/h2>\n<p>Les chercheurs envisagent plusieurs applications potentielles pour ces ailes magn\u00e9tiques : surveillance des populations de pollinisateurs ou de la qualit\u00e9 de l\u2019air, notamment dans le domaine environnemental. D\u2019autres usages sont envisag\u00e9s en protection civile, par exemple pour envoyer des robots volants dans des zones sinistr\u00e9es afin d\u2019y porter secours et localiser des survivants. Une troisi\u00e8me piste consiste \u00e0 d\u00e9ployer de tels mini-robots \u00e9quip\u00e9s d\u2019ailes magn\u00e9tiques en chirurgie mini-invasive, notamment pour des interventions sur des tissus particuli\u00e8rement fragiles.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Une autre piste explor\u00e9e par les scientifiques concerne le d\u00e9veloppement de muscles artificiels et de mat\u00e9riaux \u00ab intelligents \u00bb capables de modifier leur forme selon les besoins. Toutefois, un obstacle persiste : ces ailes artificielles d\u00e9pendent encore de champs magn\u00e9tiques externes pour g\u00e9n\u00e9rer portance et mouvement.
