This puts it far ahead of humans in speech recognition.<\/strong>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;15&#8243;][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;15&#8243;][vc_column_text]The AI was developed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kit.edu\/kit\/pi_2020_095_ki-ubertrifft-mensch-bei-spracherkennung.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">researchers at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT)<\/a>. Measurements have shown that within 1.75 seconds English words are converted with an error rate of 5 percent. For comparison: humans have a 5.5 percent error rate for such measurements. This means that the technology works better in this respect than a human being.<\/p>\n<p>Basically, the standard test &#8220;Switchboard conversational corpus&#8221; has been applied. It contains about 2500 conversations with about 500 speakers.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner row_type=&#8221;row&#8221; type=&#8221;full_width&#8221; use_row_as_full_screen_section_slide=&#8221;no&#8221; text_align=&#8221;left&#8221; padding_bottom=&#8221;30&#8243; css_animation=&#8221;&#8221;][vc_column_inner][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;30&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2>The challenges of spontaneous speech<\/h2>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;20&#8243;][vc_column_text]The problem with spontaneous speech is that it is spontaneous. This leads to the use of filler words such as &#8220;\u00e4h&#8221; or sentence breaks.<\/p>\n<p>The technology already represents the core of the Lecture Translator, which has been used in lectures in Karlsruhe since 2012. The advantage of this is that it allows different experiences to be gathered regarding the challenges of spontaneous language.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;20&#8243;][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner row_type=&#8221;row&#8221; type=&#8221;full_width&#8221; use_row_as_full_screen_section_slide=&#8221;no&#8221; text_align=&#8221;left&#8221; padding_bottom=&#8221;30&#8243; css_animation=&#8221;&#8221;][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]The research team works with neural networks in the encoder-decoder architecture and combines the LSTM (long short-term memory) and the transformer approach. Dr. Sebastian St\u00fccker, group leader for multilingual speech recognition, comments as follows: &#8220;Our strengths lie in basic technology.
